Do You Want to Become a Journalist? Follow these rules…
Love is more than propaganda. Here’s why a journalist is definitely your type. If you’re ready to put yourself out there and see where love takes you, it’s time to start spreading the news. When you find that special someone who you just click with on different levels, walking away would be foolish.
Here we go again, and I have to talk about the noble profession of journalism. Well.
The reporter-source relationship can blossom into something more intimate and more troubling, as evidenced by the Suzy Wetlaufer-Jack Welch affair. But other types of close ties between journalists and newsmakers can also pose nettlesome problems. By Lori Robertson Lori Robertson robertson. It was a cozy reporter-source relationship in the extreme, a clear conflict of interest and a deliciously scandalous affair that produced gasps and gossiping among journalists.
The editor–not just a lowly reporter–but the top editor of the Harvard Business Review had become romantically involved with the married former General Electric chairman, Jack Welch, after she interviewed him for a story. Now, Suzy Wetlaufer did what journalism ethicists say you should do under such circumstances–she told her boss about the liaison before the story was published. But for a number of staffers, the revelation came too late, and her leadership was questioned. Wetlaufer’s sex life became news in the Wall Street Journal, which broke the story in early March, and in other news outlets; she asked to be removed from her editorship; and Jane Welch–Jack’s wife, who had called Wetlaufer to ask how the editor could write objectively about her husband given the affair — filed for divorce.
Certainly this case will long live in journalists’ memories as a classic example of someone taking the reporter-source relationship to a different, and unethical, level.
Romancing the Source

Are the hours really long? Are we always wired? Do we ask more questions than Joey Essex? We are pretty busy creatures, what with all those press conferences and networking events — and maybe even a crime scene or two. Business cards and Twitter handles are our handshake. We can handle bad habits, horrible traits and poor posture, but we draw the line at appalling grammar. Our reaction will be even worse — and that alone is pretty frightening.

If you’re lucky enough to be dating a journalism student, you can’t expect to have just any regular relationship. Whether you’re gearing up for your first date or are almost ready to say “I do,” these are just a few things you’d be smart to expect when your partner is a journalism student. What separates journalism from other forms of writing is it’s distance from opinion and bias. If you report on one side of the story, you’ll have to include the other. The same goes in relationships; you’re not the only one with their own side of the story,. Especially for photojournalists, having a camera ready to shoot at all times is necessary.
You never know what you might come across in your day to day life, so having even a smart phone on hand will be a normality for a journalist.
